Desikachar : The good thing about my father was that he taught differently when he was young, when he was in Mysore and when he taught my uncle and Pattabhi Jois. Then, he taught in one style, but later, he changed and started teaching people differently. He began to attend to the needs of the person, instead of teaching everyone the same way. He also became a healer of the elderly. When he taught Muslims, he quoted passages from the Quran and asked them to look towards Mecca, and when the Bengalis arrived, he taught them in Bengali.

His teaching methodology also evolved, meaning he narrowed it down and adapted it to the needs of the people, their culture and mentality. It wasn't normalization of the "everyone-has-to-do-this-asana" variety. First of all, he connected with the person, he knew their origin, their religion, their culture, whether they were a woman or a man, he taught women and men differently. But although he taught people in very different ways, he was able to reach everyone he taught, young or old. He was an orthodox Brahmin and, at the same time, he invited them to his house for coffee and breakfast. He always fed and cared for the people he taught. Therefore, it was not only the teaching method, but it was the way in which a human being cares for another human being.
